"To Buy or Not to Buy Travel
Insurance"
A bride and groom put a deposit on a Sandals Resort and bought airfare on February 12. At this time they also purchased Travel Guard Travel insurance. They made their final payments on time and their documents came in one time. Suddenly they stopped communication with Alpha Voyages. On June 11 at 5:00 p.m. there was a knock on Mary June's (Alpha Voyages) door. It was the groom! He came to tell Mary June that the wedding had been cancelled. He wanted to know what his options were for the honeymoon they had planned and paid for. Unfortunately, the couple was already in the heavy penalty area. The airfare was non-refundable, no name changes were allowed. They had not added the additional cancel for any reason or the cancel for work reason to their Travel Guard Insurance plan. On June 12th at 9:00 p.m. the groom called Mary June and said that he and his bride would go on the honeymoon but only as friends. They did not want to lose the money they had spent on the trip. On June 26th he called again and explained that the friendship was not going to work. Unfortunately another severe penalty date was approaching for the trip. The groom needed help! Mary June called the Sandals main reservationist assigned to Alpha Voyages, Inc. The said if the groom could act in the next 7 days, Sandals could offer to place the resort portion of the trip on hold until February 12 for a travel date, travel companion, and any Sandals property. It would only cost the groom $400.00 vs. losing the thousands of dollars set to be lost. The groom is currently pondering his travel options and trying not to lose his huge financial investment on a "not to happen" honeymoon.
